![]() That facet of Pikmin made the game so much better. Of course, the 30th part isn't necessary for victory, so I still won the game. But I was never able to beat the last area for the 30th part in one day. And I did it (without gratuitious day restarts). I was then forced to spend precious days macromanaging both exploration (as I hadn't explored the next-to-last area fully), part gathering, and yellow Pikmin stockpiling. So, I bit down and accepted the loss and proceeded. But it would have undone my careful micromanagement too. But, after a boss battle, I ran into the wrong creature, and almost all of my yellows died. I had gotten the hang of the game and went on a tear through one of the levels, collecting something like 5 parts. I was about 20 days in and had only maybe 10-15 parts. However, that's what made it such a great game. Why? Becuase it is possible to screw up a few times (particularly in your first playthough) so badly that you simply are unable to find the parts you need in time. Now, you don't need them all to leave, but that doesn't make it any more appropriate. In Pikmin, you had 30 days to find 30 parts. But, it is a very good source on one of the two halves of this equation. An odd way to start a post on the topic of strategy RPGs, since it isn't one.
